Motor wheels, widely used for equipping electric bicycles, mopeds, scooters and other types of personal electric vehicles, are brushless DC electric motors. They are affordable and reliable, have high efficiency and develop high torque. In their manufacture, powerful permanent magnets made of rare earth metals are used. Thanks to this, the inventors managed to avoid using brushes, improve the characteristics of magnetic induction, reduce the rotor and increase the efficiency of the electric motor up to 95%.
The device and the principle of operation of the brushless motor.
Now let's analyze the principle of operation of a brushless motor. As the name implies, its fundamental difference is in the absence of brushes. But how does it work then? How does the necessary energy enter the engine?
The device of a brushless motor also has a rotor and a stator — the main elements of any motor. But at the same time there is no collector, respectively, and the engine is otherwise called brushless. If the brush motor works due to electro-mechanical polarity reversal, then in a brushless motor everything works due to electromagnetic induction. The location of the winding is also different — here it is located on the stator, unlike the previous type of motor.
Instead of brushes and a collector, Hall sensors and a controller are installed in the brushless motor, which controls the supply of voltage to the coils to create inductance, as well as the position of the rotor and its rotation speed.
When the board supplies current to the winding, an opposite magnetic field is also created, and the magnets on the rotor begin to rotate.
Another feature of brushless motors is to name their types. There are two types of motors — synchronous and asynchronous. In a synchronous motor, the frequency of rotation of the rotor is equal to the frequency of rotation of the magnetic field — that is, the rotor makes one revolution after one complete passage of current through the coil. And in an asynchronous motor, the reverse situation is — the frequency of rotation of the rotor is less than the frequency of rotation of the magnetic field. That is, the current passes through the coil faster.
